Leo Club of Southern Cross (Omega) was chartered on 27th December 2006 and officially formed on 24th March under the recognition of Lions Club of KL City as the sponsoring club. The first charter president of the club was Leo Lawrence Chong Wai Kit, a former member of the Alpha Leo Club of SMK St. Gabriel. With his passion and enthusiasm to serve the community developed in his days as the President of the Alpha Leo Club, he continued his passion of serving the community by establishing a new Omega Leo Club, bearing the name Southern Cross.
The name Southern Cross was inspired by Leo Nelson Tee, a unique name to represent a group of enthusiastic youngsters willing to serve the community whole-heartedly. Together with Leo Lawrence, the same group of passionate individuals formed the first Board of Directors of the club for the fiscal year of 2007/2008. Lion Stella Foo of Lions Club of KL City, the Leo Advisor for the first Board of Directors of Southern Cross, never fails to give timely advices and guidance throughout the Leos’ project-planning meetings and discussions, even sharing thoughts-provoking experiences with the Leos to inspire and motivate them at times.
Black and white, are the official colors selected by the club as both colors bear certain special meanings to the Leos. Black, a color which defines earnestness, authority and confidence, is to provide a constant reminder to the Leos, always diligent and confident of their duties and responsibilities. On the other hand, the color white represents purity, innocence and goodwill, as a symbol of the club’s objective to help out individuals in need. Hence, with a symbol and reminder always on their minds, the Leos constantly work hard to ensure that their services will benefit the community and people around them.
Staying true to the objectives of the word LEO, Leadership, Experience and Opportunity, the Leos have served the community through various projects, reaching out to individuals of all kinds, with the intention of helping and supporting them. Some of the interesting projects organized include educational trips for orphans, Kepong Home painting job and visits to orphanage. Leadership was shown by the Leos in each project, allowing them to carefully plan and fully experience the highs and lows of the lives of others and interact with various individuals along the way. Opportunities were always present for their taking to serve and help out. Throughout these projects, the Leos of Southern Cross have grown and matured in line with the club, developing and enriching their own knowledge and moral values, befriending new individuals along the way and also gaining invaluable experiences. The spirit of Leo will never be forgotten, always upheld in the endeavor to serve the community passionately.
With a group of zealous and committed youngsters leading the way, the Leos of the club will continue to serve the community with full dedication, whether it is an individual or a group, always ready to extend a helping hand to those in need.
Once a Leo, always a Leo.
